INSTRUCTIONS: Design Ideas Worksheet

In this assignment, you will be using your Pinterest board to populate the "Common Design Ideas" worksheet.
  1. Download the Common Design Ideas worksheet.
  2. Find an album artwork example for each of the common design ideas from your Pinterest board.
  3. Open the artwork into Photopea and place it in the appropriate square.
  4. Some images will have multiple design ideas in them, but you should have a different image for each square.
  5. Once you have exhausted the images from your Pinterest board, fill in the remaining squares with other album artwork images you find on Pinterest.

There can be many reasons that a design "works." Design decisions can be made based on some of the ideas in the attached worksheet. Each design idea has a description, but a few of them might be completely new concepts for you.

BALANCE (Video on Google Classroom)
Refers to the visual weight in a design. The three types of balance are:
SYMMETRICAL BALANCE
Symmetrical Balance occurs when the visual weight of the design is evenly distributed. It does not have to be a mirrored design.
ASYMMETRICAL BALANCE
Asymmetrical Balance occurs when the visual weight of the design is uneven, usually to call your attention to the relationship between the uneven parts.
RADIAL BALANCE
Radial Balance occurs when the elements of a design proceed  from a center point, using shapes, objects, or rays.


RHYTHM (Video on Google Classroom)
Rhythm occurs when the elements of a design for a sound or a beat.
LINE
Lines can be straight or curvy; real or implied.

TEXTURE
Texture is a visual reference to the way a surface feels.

SHAPE
This can include shapes that are defined and shapes that are accidental.

PATTERN
Pattern occurs when you have a series of repeated elements.

MOVEMENT
Movement occurs when your eyes visually follow an element.

COLOR HARMONY
Color harmony includes various color schemes, like analogous, complementary, split-complementary, etc.

TYPOGRAPHIC
A typographic design is when the visual interest is created by manipulating the scale (size), and position of type (text.)

VECTOR
A design that was created completely with the pen tool. P.S. Text is considered vector.
