  • A clean piece of white-lined paper
  • A pencil or pen

TO PREPARE: Watch the following short videos. Each video is about a prominent graphic designer -- some are veterans of the industry and some are accomplished newcomers.
  1. Annie Atkins - VIDEO. Annie's ideas include: Bring authenticity to your work. Be inspired by history.
  2. Milton Glaser - VIDEO. Milton's ideas include: Graphic Design is should be used to bring people together. Graphic Design and Art together have the ability to promote unity in social situations. You have a responsibility to use it to project peace.
  3. Aaron Draplin - VIDEO. Aaron's ideas include: Simplistic design can be incredibly powerful and memorable.
  4. Paula Scher - VIDEO. Paula's ideas include: Graphic Design is instinctive. Ideas come naturally, but experience and practice are necessary.
  5. Kate Moross - VIDEO. Kate's ideas include: Find inspiration not in the work of others, but in your live surroundings.
  6. David Carson - VIDEO. David's ideas include: Graphic Design should be an expression of yourself. You should always put yourself in your work. You should never compromise your beliefs. Graphic Design should be your interpretation.

TO COMPLETE THE ASSIGNMENT:
  1. Choose one of the designers about that you are most interested in learning more about. Please note, the videos above are meant only to be brief introductions to each artist. I'm trying to give you just a little bit about each one.
  2. Once you select a designer, immerse yourself in their work and their ideas
      •  Check out their work
      •  Find important or interesting things they designed
      •  Watch video interviews with them
      •  Find their website or social media presence
  3.  WRITE DOWN (with your hand and a pen or pencil. Don't cop & paste) 15 interesting facts that you find about this designer on your white lined paper. Do not use a google doc. I am not accepting electronic submissions for this.
  4. Use complete sentences.
  5. I am looking for facts about their accomplishments as a designer or their beliefs about design. I am not looking for what color their eyes are or their age.
