INSTRUCTIONS: Helvetica

Think you can find Helvetica?

PART 1

Go out into the world. Find Helvetica. Take TEN pictures of Helvetica that you see. The catch? In the spirit of Lars Müller, you must be in every picture. So get a friend or a selfie stick, grab your phones or digital camera, and go find this typeface. If you don't want to be in every photo, you can write you name on your finger and point to Helvetica. You can take ten photos or you can cut video clips together into a single movie.

  1. You must have 10 legitimate instances of Helvetica.
  2. You may NOT use any of the references that I gave you initially on google classroom:
Staples, Toyota, Tupperware, North Face, Target, Post-It, Scotch, Olympic, Microsoft, Panasonic, Mattel, Oral B, Kawaski, Harley Davidson, Jeep, JC Penny, Basf, American Apparel, American Airlines, or 3M
  3. You must be in every picture.
  4. All 10 pictures must be different
  5. You may not use the same pictures as anyone else in the class

Use this sheet for reference. Look for certain things to determine if the typeface used is Helvetica.

PART 2

Go traveling. Head to California, New York City, Texas, Minnesota, Hawaii, England, Canada, Mexico... wherever! Look for Helvetica in locations around the globe (using google maps, that is.) Find TEN legitimate instances of Helvetica (not in Massachusetts) and take screen shots of them (command+shift+3).

If there is a lot of type in your picture, you may have to bring your screenshot into Photoshop and draw an arrow to what you think is Helvetica.

DON'T GET CAUGHT WITH ARIAL
