‘Swimming Portraits’ is a lovely series of paintings by Ontario-based artist Heather Horton that features women gliding gracefully through shimmering, blue waters. Her paintings are filled with remarkable details such as light reflections, ripples, and bubbles forming from the swimmers’ strokes, giving the illusion that the subjects are just beneath the water’s surface. With their rich textures and cool blue tones, they possess a serene beauty that have a calming effect. Horton said, “There is a prevailing sense of isolation and alienation in my paintings. I want the viewer to wonder what is beyond the borders of the canvas. I like to paint natural people/objects in natural surroundings… environments that are special to them, with minimal posing and no pre-tense.”

London-based graphic designer Lobulo wanted to show the various ways a simple, flat letter can be transformed into a 3D tactile model—thus, his project ‘Atype’ was born. ‘Atype’ features the capital letter ‘A’ of the English alphabet becoming inspiring 3D pieces with the use of handcrafted paper art. Though simple, like Lobulo reckoned, it looks like it takes a lot of patience to craft these letters together neatly and precisely.
